It is an isolated mountain massif located in Svay Leu District and some 48km from Siem Reap and believed to be the birthplace of the Khmer Empire where King Jayavarman II was crowned as ‘God-king’. Kulen Mountain is a favorite spot among Cambodian families for weekend getaways and special holidays. This is where families usually gather together and the place where visitors go for outdoor activities. After a 1-hour drive, stop around 10-15min at the ticket counter for checking ticket and you can use the restroom or take a photo before driving up to the top of the mountain. 20-30 minutes later, we reach the place and start trekking to visit The River of a Thousand Lingas, see some images of gods and countless Shiva Lingas carved on the riverbed. The carvings are visible when the water is at its lowest level. It is believed that they have been carved into the river for nearly a thousand years and are meant to bless the water that goes through them. Then climbing up to the Buddhist pagoda and seeing the Huge Reclining Buddha carved at the height of a big rock. The Buddha statue is made of sandstone and is one of the biggest of its kind in Cambodia. Our locals usually come here and visit the pagoda to pray and do some offerings. Don’t miss taking views from the top; you’ll see the lush forests and jungles as well as breaching fresh air. Finally, we walk down and go to see the most beautiful waterfall, it is a perfect spot to cool off your day, plunge into the cold refreshing water that flows through the falls, or simply relax and take some nice photos to bring home with a beautiful backdrop. Enjoy Khmer Lunch near the waterfall and relax or swim before returning to the town and drop off at the hotel around 3 – 4 pm. Evening, enjoy your own activities with your own favorite food.
