Pondicherry
Pondicherry, officially known as Puducherry, and commonly referred to as just Pondy, is a union territory situated in South India. It was a former French colony and today it stands as a perfect melting pot of traditional Indian sensibilities and French architecture. It provides an almost dream-like European holiday setting in a quintessentially Indian way. There is a European charm to the streets of the French quarter of Pondicherry, popularly called White Town with its colonial structures and buildings that house several cafes and restaurants that serve authentic French cuisine. Visitors can explore these streets or rues as they are called in French, take in the sights and sounds until you end up at the seaside promenade to get a majestic view of the Bay of Bengal splashing its waves on the famous rock beach. The best time to visit would be from October to March. The nearest airport is in Chennai.
