Kozhikode
Formerly known as Calicut, Kozhikode is located in the Kozhikode district of Kerala. It was the erstwhile Capital of Malabar during the Zamorin rule 500 years ago. It has had ancient trade relations with Jews, Arabs and Phoenicians and the Chinese traders who traded in commodities like cotton and spices. With the backdrop of the idyllic and serene Arabian Sea on its western side, and the mystic peaks of Wayanad to its east, the city has played to historic travelers like Vasco Da Gama who set foot on Kappad beach in Kozhikode in 1498. Today the city is a bustling metropolis with swanky malls and fascinating shopping districts that are a treat for foodies and shopping enthusiasts.
